Where Wellness & Conversational Currency Strategies Meet
CONTEXTUALIZING COMPASSION
Speaking Truth to Power
GIFTED initially created the "BLOOM FROM WHERE YOU ARE" Initiative, also known as "BLOOM", in the Nickerson Gardens Public Housing Development, in response to the global efforts addressing Green House Gas (GHG) emissions reduction. On April 30, 2021, GIFTED made history by receiving it's second California ReLeaf grant award and planting 10 trees in partnership with the Forestry Department and Nickerson Gardens youth and residents. The Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Pandemic Crisis has presented a range of duress, yet technological advancements and innovations have proven that new pathways are possible for relief. With the introduction of various gardening techniques such as soil analysis, composting, dependable drainage, seed germination, pest control, pollinating, along with tool care management, an Annual Arbor Day Celebration Events, treecovery management, STEAM, and ecosystem education, GIFTED strives to eradicate extreme levels of environmental inequality and economic distress caused by stigmatization in marginalized communities for the betterment of humanity.

OUR PROJECTS
THIS IS WHAT ACTION LOOKS LIKE
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: Recognizing the benefits to cultural diversity in the workplace and embracing how different perspectives, opinions, and ideas can lead to more innovation and better problem solving in our society,
The GIFTED Living Institute Incorporation (GIFTED) strives to create a better society via a range of "intentional" initiatives designed for long-lasting impact.
Additionally, in honor of Nora King, founder of the Nickerson Gardens Resident Management Corporation, GIFTED uses a variety of progressive strategies, such as trauma-informed care services, tutorial assistance, financial literacy, mentoring, and evidence-based practices which address the collective self-care of targeted communities. Expressively, one of the communities which GIFTED serves is home to 3,000 youth, ages 0 to 24 years old, residing in abject poverty, yet ought to be entitled to the socio-economic status of any average United States middle-class community.
(Learn more about our initiatives and how to partner with GIFTED by emailing Gifteddesk1@gmail.com).
GIFTED YOUTH MENTORING
GIFTED defines the practice of mentoring as a positive and professional adult role model working to balance life experiences and the life initiation's of our youth, also known as, a Mentee. WHY MENTORING? Mentoring, at its core, guarantees that there is someone who cares, gives assurance that one is not alone, increases self-esteem, and lets a youth know that they matter. Many youth are constantly subjected to self doubt, feelings of low self-esteem and self-worth, opportunities for substance abuse, unsheltered living conditions, incarceration, and peer pressure. Right now, California pays an enormous sum, about $9 billion a year, to fill its overflowing prison system. About 65% of people who leave a California State Prison end up back inside in less than one year. The overcriminalization of our youth without creating equitable pathways for all youth to succeed academically, mentally, and professionally, are some of the most contentious issues in the U.S.
Research confirms that quality mentoring relationships have powerful, positive effects on young people and the mentor. What is the advantage of a young person having a mentor? Having an adult mentor means a 55% (percent) or greater likelihood that youth will attend college and/or a certified vocational training program.
Education is an evidence-based sustainable pathway for economic stability.
GIFTED LIFE OPPORTUNITIES
Since 2012, GIFTED LIFE OPPORTUNITIES (GLO), is a global digital message board located on the Facebook platform in a private application for the purpose of optimal thinking, academic enrichment, employment readiness training, positivity, and other resources.
GLO also offers mindfulness practices to young people which GIFTED mentors (e.g. ages 14 and up).
The digital tool encourages young people to be more invested in their personal, physical, professional, educational, nutritional, financial literacy, and mental health development.
GLO also offers a technology-mediated interaction between a sphere of civil society, such as local representation and business industries, trade unions and/or other essential provider agencies.
GLO demonstrates what it means to be techno-literate and is an action-step towards high-level financial literacy and literacy education skills; along with forward thinking. The online platform also energizes and encourages young people to explore new ideas and to share and teach these skills to their peers. GLO’s motto is “Elevate Your Conversation!”
(If possible and you would like to be a part of the GLO community, please send a request to Gifteddesk1@gmail.com)
VICTIMS ASSISTANT SERVICES
In This Context "Advocacy" simply means--Educate.
GIFTED is committed to helping educate victims of crime and violence (e.g. gang, hate, domestic, LGBTQ2+, etc.) so that they may learn how to protect their own rights.
Victim Outreach Specialists provide an array of services to help victims map out away for surviving.
The primary role of an Specialist is to assist victims by helping them learn how to secure essential resource information, services, trauma-informed care, and after-care programs. This requires teaching them how to identify both their emotional needs and their concrete needs for assistance and information. (e.g. employment training, education, financial literacy, safety, housing, legal services, food insecurity, mental health, etc.)
Specialists can also assist victims of crime with learning about where to go in order to process claims with the California Victim Compensation Board (CalVCB).
Specialists can also help educate victims about how to connect with bill paying assistance programs as the result of a crime. Crime survivors who have been injured or have been threatened with injury may also be eligible for CalVCB services.
CalVCB Online allows you to:
-
Apply for compensation;
-
Upload and submit documents; and
-
Communicate with CalVCB.

Note: GIFTED does not and has not at any time participated in advocacy for the purpose of public policy.
7 ACTS OF COMPASSION
My true religion is kindness."—Thich Nhat Hanh
"When we practice loving kindness and compassion we are the first to profit." —Rumi

The core emotional experience of compassion is allowing another's heart to take up temporary residence inside of ours. Mutual compassion would have the heart sharing fully and willingly returned. While calling compassion a form of empathy, literally meaning to feel with another, is a wonderful start, greater depth of attuning to the emotional meaning of another's experience is essential. The moment your heart is touched by another, that your presence evokes another's presence, when you bring your Thou that invites another's Thou to come forward, is the translucent encounter. It is in this person-to-person encounter, as precious and rich an intimate meeting as known to human beings, that we see most clearly with our hearts in hearing the soul's call.
ADD WATER: A Counter Bullying Journey
WORDS MATTER. Words can bring negative energy into our vibration and affect one on a physical, psychological, or environmental level. People exposed to constant harsh criticism, sarcasm, and taunts, can or may easily internalize the sentiments behind the words. This happens whether in a school or in the home environment, the workplace, in relationships, and in our society. Masaru Emoto, a Japanese researcher, studied the link between the human consciousness and its effect on the molecular structure of water. Emoto's early work explored the possibilities of how water can react to positive thoughts and words, and how polluted water can be cleansed through prayers and positive visualization. HOW DOES THIS WORK IN THE CONTEXT OF BULLYING? Consider the fact that your body is over 70% water, therefore, imagine how quickly the vibration from negative words resonates in your cells.
Bullying is a distinct type of aggression. Research finds that bullies have a distinct psychological makeup. They lack prosocial behavior, and often exhibit extreme bouts of paranoia and hostility while misreading neutral situations and conversations. Many are untroubled by the anxiety which they project onto others, and do not attempt to understand others' feelings. Although most of their peers, staff, and associates dread their presence, they perceive themselves quite positively. Many exist on a continuum ranging from a few narcissistic traits to full-blown personality disorder. Bullies are found at all levels in corporate and public service settings, reveal themselves in friendships and between mates disguised as loyalists; and they can be a teacher, parent, or caregiver. Children and adults who bully intentionally to hurt others, frequently in a systematic way such as gas lighting, name calling, screaming, threatening, isolating others, spreading rumors, cyberbullying and text messaging vile thoughts, tend to suffer from poor self images. They are skilled at manipulation and rarely take responsibility for their behavior. Studies show that a third of “bully victims” are both bullies and have been bullied themselves. In 2010, School Psychology Quarterly, provided a study about how students who are categorized as bullies not only exhibit significant disruptive or externalizing behavior but also suffers from internalizing symptoms such as depression. The ADD WATER initiative is an "intentional" dialogue and programming based upon studies which represent a comprehensive effort to synthesize research on bullying and victimization; without drawing immediate conclusions from 30-years of research on the subject matter. To this aim, GIFTED also offers clinical counseling and onsite and virtual school counter bullying programs; certified anger management, certified domestic violence training, and certified
break-through parenting skills training services.
STIMULANT USE PREVENTIONÂ OUTREACH
Most of GIFTED's effort pertaining to our stimulant use prevention programming involve studying new approaches and developing innovative ways to implement them. We evaluate our success in this field by gathering qualitative and quantitative data, and using that information to measure shifts and changes from our baseline measurements. Whether it is the community-at-large, middle school or high school students, or at the college level, it almost always includes substance abuse as a rite of passage. All forms of media along with the music industry, also help reinforce a false narrative, especially when it comes to drug use.
Studies show that 75% of college students report consuming alcohol at least once while in high school.
BUILDING LEADERSHIP OFFERING OPPORTUNITIES & MINDFULNESS: A STIMULANT USE PREVENTION PROGRAM also known as "BLOOM":
BLOOM is an innovative effort to expand stimulant use prevention outreach, education, and opioid health literacy in public housing, in schools, and on college campuses.
Self-Love: The Complete Journey to Loving Yourself
What does self-love mean to you? Typically defined, self-love is “having regard for one’s own well-being and happiness.” Nevertheless at GIFTED, we look at it through a lens of so much more. GIFTED believes loving yourself incorporates four components of wellness—from accepting life's initiations (we all experience them) to following your goals and accepting your "Baton" and moving towards what makes your inner-self feel great.
With that in mind,—our go-to four component mantra is, "I Got Game!"
(e.g. grace, accountability, movement, and energy).
Mahatma Gandhi said, "Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny."
Just knowing about self-care and mindfulness practices is not always enough to enhance one's life-editing formula for
PEACE OF MIND.
At GIFTED, self-care is at it's core and is considered a practice of balance. It is about how you care for yourself. It is also a pathway to being ((LissaVERB)) gentle with yourself. It is also a journey about how you view the link between yourself and your self-worth, self-value, and self-esteem. It is also about how you engage in self-talk with yourself. It is also about helping yourself see your authentic self, learning how to create boundaries, and how to seek full information in order to make authentic choices.
